Welcome to my one woman run show and small business, handmadebyhelen - by yours truly.
I create beautifully unique handmade polymer clay earrings from my dining table and when I’ve been asked who is my target market, honestly - it’s anybody who wears earrings!
Many people have asked what made me start making earrings?
Why would I purposely put even more on my plate when I have a demanding fulltime job, with two children, two dogs and being the main caregiver?
Why, when I’ve just gotten over the trauma of 2 years of part time study in clinical coding whilst also working full time and was on the verge of tears every time an assessment was due?
Don’t I want to chill?
Obviously I enjoy torturing myself.
All jokes aside, I needed a creative outlet. I really enjoyed anything that was artistic and was always an avid illustrator when I was younger. I honestly thought I’d be drawing anime and living in Japan, just being a nerdy but cool girl (haha!)
Working my day job in healthcare IT means there isn’t any room for mistakes and everything must be a certain way or nothing will work. Day in, day out, this can become extremely mentally draining. One day I was mindlessly scrolling through Insta as we all do, and came across a reel of someone making earrings from clay and was curious. As they say, the rest is history…
